Sumela Monastery (Monastery of the Virgin Mary) is a historic monastery built on a steep cliff in the Altindere Valley of Trabzons Macka district. Founded in 386 AD at 1,200 meters above sea level, it is one of the most important historical structures of the Black Sea.
